Peter - 自己紹介

こんにちは、皆さん!

My name is Peter (ピーター)and I’m a third year at the University of Calgary studying Computer Science, with a concentration in Human Computer Interaction. I was born and lived my whole life in Calgary, Canada, and this will be my first time travelling alone outside the country! Going to Japan has always been a dream of mine, and one that will finally be soon fulfilled!

Some of my hobbies include technology, computers, video games, and anime. I've also been practicing Gojuryu Karate (剛柔流空手度) for over 6 years and will go for my black belt examination next year. These makes Japan one of the natural destinations to go to in order to satisfy all of these interests! As such, I can’t wait to visit places like Akihabara, the ultimate otaku and technology shopping district. I also love how Japan is a mixture of modern technology and traditional cultures and want to experience different festivals and historic sites like Kyoto and Hiroshima first-hand.

Like many others, I first got interested in Japan through watching anime when I was young. Shows like Dragonball Z and Fullmetal Alchemist captured my attention and have never let go since. Nowadays, I treat anime not just as something to watch, but as a means to interact with various communities. Watching anime as a pastime is one thing, but being able to discuss and get involved with like-minded people gives it a whole different experience for me. Some of my favourite series are dramas and romcoms like CLANNAD, Madoka, and Toradora. I wouldn't call myself a full-fledged otaku, but I'm not your average casual watcher either, so feel free to hit me up if you wanna talk about anything related! Looking deeper into the various aspects of otaku culture through this blog will be quite an interesting experience, and I hope to be able to share my new insights with you.
